Heinrich Ehrler was a German Luftwaffe fighter ace during World War II. He was born on September 14, 1917, in the German town of Rastenburg. Ehrler served in the German air force during the early years of the war, honing his skills as a fighter pilot. He became famous for his impressive abilities, earning the prestigious Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross in May 1943. He was known to be a brave and skilled fighter, but also as a difficult and temperamental leader.
On April 24, 1945, Ehrler was shot down by Allied forces while defending Berlin towards the end of the war. He crash-landed his aircraft and was captured by Soviet forces. Ehrler died under mysterious circumstances three days later, reportedly by either committing suicide or being executed by his captors. He remains a controversial figure in German military history due to his association with the Nazi regime.
